In early fall of 2020, Bobby Poirier took the first step to accomplishing his weight loss goal. He had been referred to me by a mutual friend Kayla, who encouraged him to start training with me.
BFranFitness was in its infant stages. The gym was a small collection of weights in my parents' shed. That never seemed to phase Bobby. He was committed to the process from day 1 because at the time, he was 280 pounds and wanted to be around 200 pounds, but primarily muscle.
I remember the conversation that followed, like it was yesterday. He was so eager to get started and I told him we had a choice to make. I said option 1 we do hours of cardio, multiple times a week and cut back on his food intake and we will drop weight really quickly. Which is something he had mentioned to me had done before when he was preparing to join the Marine Corps. I quickly suggested not to go that route, and to go this way instead. I said we can commit to a plan for the next couple years. This plan will involve changing not only how much you eat, but also what types of food you're eating. On top of that, we will lift weights multiple times a week to build all of that lean muscle tissue.
He was super excited for option two and we immediately got to work. As a personal trainer for the past 10 years I have worked with hundreds, if not thousands of individuals and everyone is super excited on day 1 but when it's 6 months in, 20 degrees outside and you have a training session at 5am, you need to have that same level of excitement. Well let me tell you, Bobby does!
He works construction all day and trains with me before work. He is always ready for each session and even today as we approach 3 years of working together still asks questions as to how he can do an exercise better, or why I programmed it this way. This constant search and hunger to be the best he can be, is why I am super proud to say that as of today Saturday August 12th 2023, Bobby currently weighs 205 pounds and is an impressive 17.8% Body Fat.
So in two years and 11 months he has lost 75 pounds and 20.4% Body Fat!
Way to go Bobby, I couldn’t be any more proud of him and all that he has accomplished!
But we aren't done yet! Our work is far from over! With each pound he loses and % he drops, his goals keep expanding so together we will continue to do what we always do with each session at BFranFitness, and that is to “Build Your Best Body!”
“You can't out train a bad diet”
You have probably heard that before but this has never been more true than in the transformation of Crystal. Crystal reached out to me in October of 2022 as a vegan bodybuilder trying to get ready for a show. She was in the final stages of prep but unfortunately her body wasn’t responding well at all. She was training 5x/week, doing cardio 5 times per week and on a controlled caloric intake. All of which was designed to help her lose weight and primarily body fat before she stepped on stage.
This however was leading to a week over week average increase of 1-1.5lbs and primarily all fat storage. I knew exactly what we had to do and also knew it wasn't going to be easy. So on our very first call I had an extremely difficult conversation with Crystal. I said “if your goal is to be the best athlete in this sport and you want to deliver the best package you can to that stage, then we need to cancel our shows for 2022”
I remember that call like it was yesterday. I was her new coach and had to make an extremely tough but appropriate call. She didn't skip a beat and said, “okay, I trust you!”
So we sat down and went over the numbers. She was eating 800-1000 calories per day and gaining weight primarily fat. So we started by discussing how we need to reverse her diet and begin feeding the body to reduce the stress it was currently under. Over the next 6 months we gradually built her food intake up to a consistent 1600 calories per day. We did this slowly to ease the workload on the body and allow her to keep reintroducing foods.
After 6 months we managed to essentially double her food intake and only gained 5 pounds of weight during that process. The reverse went about as smooth as we could have hopped. Along the way we documented everything from food sensitivity, to desired sodium and fiber intake all with the same goal in mind, “Build Your Best Body!”
8 Months later Crystal has begun her prep for the Fall / Winter shows of ‘23-’24. In the past 2 months of prep as the calories have come back down her metabolism has responded beautifully!
She still has 12 weeks before she steps on stage and I can’t wait to see the full completion of her transformation!
Training with Madison is a highlight of my week. She understands how hectic life as a working mom of littles can get, and she always makes me feel both supported and accountable. She is kind, motivating, and flexible when I need to shift a session time. Our sessions are challenging and I have noticed improvements in both my physical strength and overall confidence. She has helped me to re-prioritize my own health, which makes me feel much better equipped (both mentally and physically) to take on life's chaos!
Over the past eight years, working with Brett has been an incredible journey of transformation and personal growth. From the moment I walked into his gym, I was met with a level of professionalism and genuine care that I had never experienced before in a fitness environment.
Brett possesses an extraordinary ability to tailor workouts to fit individual needs while pushing you to achieve things you never thought possible. He has an infectious passion for fitness and a deep understanding of the human body, which is evident in the way he crafts each training session. Whether it's strength training, flexibility, or endurance, his workouts are always challenging yet rewarding.
But what truly sets Brett apart is his unwavering support and encouragement. He has a unique way of motivating you even on your toughest days, always reminding you of your progress and potential. Brett not only helped me achieve my fitness goals but also instilled in me a mindset of resilience and determination that transcends the gym.
His commitment goes beyond physical training; he cares about your overall well-being. Brett is always there with advice on nutrition, recovery, and lifestyle choices that complement my fitness journey.
Thanks to Brett, I am stronger, healthier, and more confident than I have ever been. If you are looking for a personal trainer who is dedicated, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in your success, I can not recommend Brett enough. His impact on my life is profound and enduring.
I started training with Brett in the summer of 2023 and in a few short months we were able to make some massive accomplishments!
I started working with him in preparation for my upcoming wedding. We laid out a specific plan through exercise and nutrition that would help me accomplish my goals! I began training 2x/week in person with him and completing 1 additional day of training on my own. He worked around my always crazy and continuously rotating nursing schedule and we never missed a beat. He was always prepared for every session and was able to challenge me in new ways. We got to work and pretty quickly noticed an imbalance in strength between my traps and my lats. So we would work on correcting that and it was able to make a huge improvement on my posture, upper back strength and alleviate a lot of tension from my neck. As we continued on he began to notice an even bigger issue involving my hips. We tried mobility and even some range of motion exercises but nothing seemed to correct the imbalance. So under his guidance I went to a new Chiropractor who then referred me out for x rays. Turns out I had a L5 compression fracture and an L5-S1 compressed disk. This does not require surgery but both the doctor and chiropractor were happy to hear about all the exercises I was doing with Brett. Without him I am not sure how much more damage I could have done to my back! Since I had to take a break from training he has checked in with me multiple times and I am honestly working so hard to get cleared from PT and get back to working with him!
